Your Fave is Autistic

a picrew by user grgikau of a person with a ginger bob, brown bangs, flowers in their hair, a button down shirt, and overalls. Behind them is the autistic flag which has desaturated red, orange, yellow, green, and blue stripes with a white infinity sign.

Thanks for clicking on my carrd! Above you can find my about section, how to request a character, and so on!

Flag I use most often: made by reddit user u/ShinyUmbreon465

autistic flag which has desaturated red, orange, yellow, green, and blue stripes with a white infinity sign.
reddit post, abridged text: red to reject "light it up blue", Orange as its part of the rainbow spectrum, gold which represents autism, green which is part of the color spectrum. Blue was excluded to give separation from the "autism awareness" movement

About

About PJ
I'm autistic, ADHD, demisexual biromantic, and agender.
I use she/they pronouns.
I'm 23 and currently enrolled in a master's program with the intention of researching autism in a way that serves the community.
I'm from the USA

On the topic of flags:

If I use a flag that I shouldn't, PLEASE tell me!
There's a really really good chance I didn't know. Unfortunately, I am not always up to date on things because ~life~

About autism:

  • Autism is a neurotype that is on a spectrum. Spectrum does not mean "somewhere between is and isn't", it means every autistic person's experience is unique.

  • Most of the autistic community does not prefer person-first language. "Autistic" > "person with autism". If someone with autism prefers person first, use person first when referencing that person

  • Some autistic people consider themselves disabled, and some don't. This is a personal choice.

  • "function" and "severity" labels are outdated (high/low functioning, more/less severe). The amount and type of support needed is the better way to phrase things

  • autism has many many presentations. We are not all Sheldon Cooper.

On self-diagnosis (dx):

  • evaluations are inaccessible to most. They are costly, time-consuming, and emotionally draining.

  • self-diagnosis is valid. This applies to autism and ADHD both.

  • believing self dx isn't valid is ableist, racist, classist, and sexist (yes, really)

On ASD/ADHD:

There is a significant overlap between autism and ADHD, however, they are not the same. The neurodivergent community is stronger when we work together, but each neurodivergency is entitled to their own community! Autistic exclusive spaces are valid.

Dispelling common autism misconceptions:

  • we are capable of empathy, love, rich social lives, independent living, etc

  • we are not "mentally children"

  • autism speaks is a hate group

  • autism is not curable. It's not caused by vaccines either

  • autism is NOT a bad thing

Regarding different diagnosis names:

As of 2013, all autism diagnoses in the USA fall under ASD. Aspergers is still used in countries outside the USA. On the by and large, 'Aspergers' is an outdated and harmful label with horrible origins.
HOWEVER many people initially dxed with Aspergers find comfort in that label, and they are valid. End of.
(and again, this diagnosis is still used elsewhere.)
I personally will not be using this label anywhere on my account!

Requesting

Send requests by twitter DM
Multiple requests allowed, OCs allowed

- Character name and franchise
- If they're headcanon, coded, or canon autistic
- If you want to include any other headcanon/canon identities (ex. ADHD, disability, LGBTQIA+, etc)
- And add a photo if you want me to use a specific one!
Note: if calling a character autistic may hurt the community, I may not post them! This has only happened once though
